I was having a 'debate' about fate with a friend. I gave her a friendly dig in the arm. This is a paraphrasing of the conversation that followed.

-"Ow, what did you do that for?"
-"I couldn't help it. Fate made me do it."
-"No it didn't, you did."
-"Ah, so you're saying free will does exist?"
-"Well, yes, for certain things..."
-"Right. So who exactly chooses which things it applies to."
-"Erm, well... the universe?"
-"Or, is it more likely that it's constant."
-"How do you mean?"
-"Well, either it applies all the time or not at all."
-"I suppose that's possible."
-"Yes, me too. I think it's most likely in fact; most likely that it always applies."
(at this point the friend moved the conversation to something else)
