Interestingly enough the axle stand is looking much better after 24 hours & about 30 mins of elbow grease with some wire wool scourer type things think another 24 hours to loosen the really stubborn bits in the nooks & crannys should do the trick.

The metal is in good nick underneath but these have been battered by the looks of it, so on the cleaned up surfaces, you can see where some of the metal has chipped, bedded in slghtly etc but I can totally beleive those pics of the shafts

One thing, wear gloves! I was wearing latex gloves & the finger + thumb split slightly, so now I've got years of rust n grime around my nails... It will not shift at all!

not an option the R6 has been through 3 winters and ACF50 cant cover everything... it the fairing bolts that have taken the biggest hit i might try using vinigar.

Can I just ask paul...why are you cleaning axle stands?
Surely they are just for the car to sit on while you work on it, they don't need to be clean! madness.

they were 2nd hand and completely covered in rust so managed to get them for a fiver decided to clean them up and re-spray them so they're like new so I could test the vinegar method. Anyway, nice shiny axle stands are nice & shiny
