Are fairings pretty essential for the track?
Yeah, your bike will blow up on the 3rd corner if you dont have fairings, and if you actually make the 4th corner through some fluke, the wind-resistance will rip your arms out of their sockets.

I guess at top level racing they are essential, but a bimbling trackday its fine

Breezy.

Most I've had a naked bike up to is 150 otc and that was, er, interesting.

Scarily fun if you manage to hit it with no fairings.

Or at least, it was in 2006 when that article was written.

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble but I believe there are better middleweight entries available now, like the ER6, for example.

There are better bikes out there. But parallel twins are just IL4s that have had their arms chopped off.

Yeah the suspensions naff, but it's fine for the average weight of jap or a really light local here with fresh oil.

Fairings aren't necessary for the track, there's a couple of minitwinners here who race nakeds. I reckon the slightly worse aeros counterbalance the weight loss and make it about the same.

Dunno what you're whinging about Dave. Someone who isn't me has had a naked bike* indicating nearly 3 times NSL. *well it had a flyscreen the size of a fag packet on it. Apparently it pulls all the muscles down your shoulder and arm and things that are "over there" are "here" very quickly.

I had mine doing 145 on the day I bought it (man that guy had a long drive.... ) and it's fine. Loads of fun trying to hold on!

Fairings are for homos & golfers.

An indicated 200mph on a naked bike? I'm not convinced. Even an unrestricted busa will only just crack a genuine double ton and that's more slippery than slippy the slippery eel.

The only trouble I had doing 150 on a naked bike was holding my head forward. My arms were fine.
