If you jump start it, you can use your multimeter to check it is charging OK. I believe something like 14.4 V across the battery throughout the rev range would be a healthy charging circuit. If that doesn't charge your battery then the battery would likely be dead & need replacing.

It might be worth buying an Optimate as well , I still have the original battery in my bike and it`s a K3 , so you MAY also have a Regulator/Rectifier problem as well , not saying this is the case though .

My battery went completely flat after leaving bike for a few weeks. It kept losing charge after that so replaced it with a new one, and now keep it on a trickle charger-got mine at halfords and it has a lead you can attach to the battery and leave, just plugging the bike in when you are home.

Tried jump starting it off my car (2l diesel focus) and the battery must be completely dead, would'nt start, engine turned over a couple of times but not with enough power to start the bike...

Tried it a few times but the jump leads started to get very hot and concerned about knackering the battery on the focus!!

Looking at the ignition I think I may have left the parking light on and not realised which could have drained the battery as I was using the parking lock and I'm not used to this bike...
