Hovis - whats the deal with the campsite, do we ring and book direct with them or is the plan to all pitch together again ?

i will find out tomorrow.

i did phone, a few weeks back, and he said you just turn up, but i want to make sure, plus mention the fact there will be bikes, Dr Rich has camped there so there should not be a problem

im in for camping but don't want to put name on list just yet, wont know until 2 weeks before

No problem with bikes





Some info

The campsite is quite near the town, some will miss the entrance if you go quickly as you leave the town.

It is about 5 mins walk from the town centre. Less good for romantic tranquil camping but great for pubs, food. The Crown is the most civilised, some other pubs hold a 'local' disco for 'local' people on the weekends, take your pic. The chippy you will see coming from the campsite is good. The nearest pub advertises on a board as you leave the campsite, never been think its called the Eagle.

To get to the town, walk to the playground end of the campsite, there is a gate and a footpath by the river. Take a torch, it is pitch black at night and some have fallen down the bank and been unable to ride after

Late eve, you get some local kids sometimes hang around on that path. We have been there 4 or so times and never had any problems at all so don't be concerned. On our trips we have never had any tampering/theft etc. But take usual precautions. We only tend to lock up bikes with no key but it's up to you.

The campsite is lovely and used often by groups of bikes, offroaders, cyclists.

The nicest spots are by the river, but if you are midge averse, camp up on the road side. This is quiet at night even though a main-ish road.

The shower and toilet block is great and one of the best of any site I have been on. I think it is heated etc in winter. This is a big reason for using Wyeside.

Its a good compromise site. I have been in much more scenic and remote places but this ticks the boxes.

I probably can't come, but may be in the area and if the weather is poor may be pulling into this site too, so you never know..

PS- please respect the site, noise wise from the bikes and try and not skid on the grass and churn it up, and if you do try and make good. We have had 40 bikes there and try and leave it like none were ever there. It would be a shame to annoy the very nice owners.
