Once again, a rather dramatic drop-in on these as well, but each to their own, not at there best in the wet either as they need heat really to work well, more your "sunny sunday" tyre, wouldn't expect much over about 3.5k miles out of them though as they tend to induce "spirited" riding, but not bad I'd give them a try if I was track daying the bike, work well on an SP1.

Cheers Mark.

Do I need to replace the tyre or will a bit of spirited conering eaven it out?

If I do need to replace can anyone reccomend a "touring" type tyre as I am obviously not needing a sporty one.

5000 Miles doesn't seem like a lot, is this normal?

Cheers
Have a look at your pressures as it doesnt seem a lot of miles for your style of riding. I like to keep the rear tyre at the lower end of its inflation range (I am fairly skinny as well) as I feel it gives a bigger contact area and so reduces wear rate.

I love my Z6's They're good in all weather, and have never let me down. There's more grip than I need (although I've never used them on a track), and I'm getting about 5-6000 miles out of them.

If it's just your rear, then either live with it until the front needs changing or bite the bullet and get a set, either way make sure the stickiest is on the front, the standard D220's are fairly limited but OK for what they are.

Having used several sets of each, I'd be looking at either
Mez Z6's,
diablo strada's
Avon storms
and with care you could well double that mileage, any of the above will be much better than the D220's you currently have and are sport touring tyres.

Read some of the reviews in the tyre section (which is what it's for).

Cheers Mark.
+1 to all.

Do check your pressures, but you'll generally find lower pressures give faster wear as the tyre flexes more, heats up more and wears faster.

Don't worry about "Touring tyres" not being sticky, the last few years have seen just about all touring tyres being released to the press at race tracks. The Diablo Strada / Metzler Z6 is a single compound tyre (so not the latest technology) and I got 10,500 miles out of a pair on my ZX6R, including scraping the foot peg out through Lydden race circuit's right handers.

All the current crop of touring tyres are bloomin' brilliant. But as Rictus says, people tend to prefer the characteristics of one tyre type over another. That's simply a personal preference thing that gets built up with experiance. I've found myself to be quite un-fussy about tyres. Other people really hate one manufacturer's take on a tyre.

and storms at £145
anyone know how much the postage is? My local place is doing them for £175 fitted (loose wheels) just trying to work out which is most economic. Or my really local place will fit them for £15 if I gets them off the net.

Normally most places charge you £10 tops of delivery of a tyre. Most combine postage..
