Job done, thanks very much.

Can't believe how much gunge was under that cover. 18000 miles worth of dirt and chain lube in a sticky mess. I know for a fact that the Suzuki dealer has never done that adjustment at a service 'cos it's never come back with the adjuster at the lever screwed back in, even though its in the periodic maintenance part of the workshop manual... so much for Full Suzuki Dealer Service History eh?

Little things like that certain places don't bother with it unless you SPECIFICALLY mention it.

I did once, but forgot about it when I picked the bike up, and it was only the next time I needed to adjust it that I realised it hadn't been done.

Makes you wonder why you pay full dealer prices for servicing, when armed with a workshop manual, a free day to spend in the garage and the patience to not start turning sockets until you've figured out what you should be doing, you could probably do a much better job yourself! None of it is rocket science once you've done it once. At least then you'd know everything on the maintenance schedule had been ticked off.

I decided on that years ago with tradesmen, I do most of my DIY around the house myself, because I take my time, am much more fussy about getting it right, and I end up with a much better job done. A tradesman is never going to be as careful with my house as I am and he's got financial motive to get the job done in as short a time as possible.

I think I'm going to start doing the same with servicing my bike....

Yep, thats good. The workshop manual is exactly the same mind, page 18 of manual 2 (periodic maintenance) and they are available here www.sv650.org/sv_manuals.htm

I decided exactly the same thing regarding bikes many years ago. Even when my SV was new and being dealer serviced (in case I ever needed the warranty) I still re-checked everything afterwards and found several things out of whack or not done. Although I do not get stamps in my service book any more I keep a list of what I did/when/mileage to keep any potential buyer in the future happy that the bike has been PROPERLY serviced.

If an accountant like me with soft office hands and self-taught common sense in the spanner department can do it - anyone can. Welcome to the fold!
