And they tend to hang oabout still water, so has the sight got a lake or something?

wifey? eep...lol. There was a river nearby the camp last time...but i should imagine they've cottoned on to the fact campsites are popular with juicy people, they like the trees too...

I've had my holidays approved now - just struggling to find all the different threads on the GM scattered about

Midges basically breed in acidic soil, so anywhere you have evergreen trees and foliage dropping waxy stuff like pine needles on the floor, you'll get lots of midges.
