Same in cars - you are more likely to get a puncture in the rear than the front. A screw dropped will naturally fall on its side - the front runs over it and flips it up for the rear to collect.

My experience so far is that bikes get more punctures than cars: softer rubber maybe?

Perhaps you just notice punctures more on 2 wheels.. just a thought :-S

Actual surface area suggests you're more likely to get a puncture on a car but generally deeper and thicker rubber could be more resistant... who knows.

I've had a faulty tyre valve in the front, resulting in a slow puncture. when it got to 10 psi, i REALLY knew about it.

I always figured it was cos bikes ride over more crap than cars, especially when filtering. The line a bike takes doesn't tend to follow that of a car's tyre track...

Same explanation for both points perhaps?

A cars longer wheelbase leaving the screw time to fall over again and not get collected in the tyre.
