While posting last, to make sure I was not posting rubbish. FWIW my VFR manual says to adjust on centre stand!

I dont think it matters that much as long as the wheel is straight and there is enough slack.Thats why they say to leave 3 cm,so it doesnt run tight whatever wieght is on the bike.

I can't see how it can really make the slightest bit of difference as long as you neither make the chain rediculously tight or leave it dangling about like a wizard's sleeve. I've adjusted mine both on the side stand and on a paddock stand depending on what's available at the time and I've not died once because I didn't do it in a particular manner.

My chain went way too tight adjusting it on a paddock stand.

Just ride the bike and don't worry about it - my chain only gets adjusted when I get new tyres (about once a year). Never had any problems.

Please don't listen to this. I had a chain slip off on a motorway at 90mph. It wasn't pleasant.

about a week - i knew it was loose but didn't want to adjust it myself at the time, and it was booked in for its service the following day.

I just rode my bike and didn't worry about it.
