you cant transfer Office in this way, it consists of files and registry data. Much more trouble than its worth if you want it to work reliably.

Which version are you trying to transfer? You can get a 60 day trial of Office 2007 downloaded from MS, then just transfer your 'key' for excel (if its 07)

Or if its 2003 then I can lend you an install disc to use with your own key, as I moved over to 2007

I never managed to get an OO speadsheet file to open in Excel or vice versa. It kept asking odd questions about character types and all sorts of things. The PC has now died and of course when I recovered it all we got back was XP, so I'm getting hacked off replacing everything. One thing I will not bother with is OO, now that Office Home and Student 2007 is only about £50. [/derail]

Moved Excel to a new folder once - mistake!!!! Nothing worked after that. Moving to another PC would be a pain as already stated.

If you have a genuine copy of Excel that you own then you can contact MS to obtain a replacement key/media. Windows applications are not designed to be moved in the same way as applications on say a Linux or Apple Mac machine. They are installed using an install routine, thats the only reliable way they should be put there.

Settings and preferences can be migrated to other user profiles or computers but thats it.
