When Chris was looking for his, I read a couple of 749 tests and they all said that too. Got to be the 'S' model though IMO for the extra power. I think it's only 2 BHP down on the 996Bip.

Only 2 bhp down on the 996 but 20 ft lbs of torque down on it also.

Honestly yes. If you aren't in the right gear on an overtake you notice it a lot more.

That said it may be a bit deceiving, the bike is absolutely solid and stable in every situation and it never really feels like you are going very fast. I know it is faster than my SV but it doesn't feel as fast its weird.
