Yes I found this my old escort before it was smashed up. Where the cable conected to the throttle on top of the engine it sticky, so when it was open it well er stayed open, I checked this after speeding up tp a bust intersection when the lights were red! Its worth a luck, I sprayed some WD-40 it helped, but I can't report more than was wreck soon after that.

Solved! And you couldn't make it up

Drove back to autoglass this morning very conscious of the number of people staring at 'the impatient woman in the renault' as I sat in traffic.

One of the window fitters was sceptical that it had happened due to changing the windscreen. I was starting to think I was mad assuming it was anything that had done (anyone who has seen my bike will know my level of TLC towards vehicles, so I assumed it just must be wear & tear and a freaky coincidence on when it happened).

Anyway, they agreed to have a look in case it was something they could fix.

Into the bay went a car sounding like an airbus landing, and 2 mins later, out came my normal quiet renault.

To the amazement of the guys working there, the cause was a tiny windscreen clip. It must have been dropped during the fitting process, fell through the grill in the bonnet, found it's way to the throttle cable (which is a bit further forward than the grill), and got stuck there. It obviously dislodged and got stuck again further down when I managed to get the pedal to depress fully.

The guys were very apologetic (and they lubed the throttle cable for me), and they admitted it was their fault, but they said they had never come across this happening before. I'm just glad it's all solved and that I no longer sound like a bonkers mad women.

Now all the damn car has to do is pass its MOT next week
