tbh it's not a bad idea building your own you'll get a cheaper faster machine and if you buy good quality parts from the well known respected component manufacturer's it should be as if not more reliable than a factory built machine however you are a bit stuffed on warranty.

You'll just need the expertise to find the component at fault, and then send it back to the manufacturer. I build for myself, but not for friends/family for this reason. It's just too much of a pain getting phoned over to fix the bloody thing when it breaks! |

and standards heat sinks come with hard paste that does not fill the gaps that creat heat pockets unlike liquid paste ohh and i do more than "knock" together machines, i fully mod them as well and think i know a fair bit more than the robots that put the OEM pc's togeather and take more time and care over the out come. all just my opinions just so you know what i mean by time a effort my fully modded rig, all cable are run behind the mother board try through holes behind the motherboard to creat the least amont of air turbalance, that would have been created buy the 4 120mm intake fans, 2 grapics cards a dual core that runs at 4.5ghz and never goes above 50c @ 100% load ![]() at the end of the day its up to you i voiced my concerns but its his/your money at the end of the day do what you want with it ![]() happy xmas all ![]() Last edited by barwel1992; 24-12-09 at 02:09 AM. |

barwel1992 - Is that massive box in the middle a heatsink? It's huge!
zsv650 - That kind of work certainly won't be attracting the best and brightest of the IT world. It probably gets run through some automated test (hopefully designed by someone who knows what they're doing) by someone on minimum wage, or not at all. |

and just think though all the parts that go in to a pc are tested as well so i would say OEM and custom are tested the same, as long as you get the right mother board for the CPU you have and the right ram, and a powerful enough power supply thats a quality make then you wont have any problems plus OEM you lose a lot of functions like upgrading, it can be done but is very limited where as a pc you build you can upgrade what you want |

that is true but the parts are not tested together so you get various compatibilty issues or drivers not being there though with my own i havnt found them that bad tbh it's just something to think about.

Thing is though, you missed the point. He doesnt want a massive desktop tower, he wants something which is compact and neat, e.g what a mini slimline desktop tower or built in media centre offers.
