Well it's 4 hours labour so £250 doesn't sound too bad with bits and the VAT added.

IMO i'd do everything else your self and do the clearances at the garage if your not sure.

he also said that he'd prefer to have the bike overnight so he could do the clearances the next day when the bikes fully cold.

Our main suzuki dealer does 1/2 price labour £22/hour during winter. I had valve clearances adjusted, coolant change, oil+filter, brake fluid changed, spark plugs, air filter and sorted out a bolt i sheared when changing my hugger. All for £140! Also, the workshop has a glass viewing booth so you can watch the work being done on your bike whilst you wander around the showroom.
That's £44ph usually! Bargain - in London, you're looking closer to £65/70ph.

I hate to agree with the above but I have to, a 'Major service and valve clerances' for 250 really is a bargin. My 16k service cost about 360 looking at the reciept, usual parts and a whopping big chunk for the labour charge.

Found a nice independant mechanc now and sevicing costs have dropped by half or more

When you handed over £360 was the guy wearing a mask and holding a couple of pistols

Sounds like a certain D. Turpin was your mechanic. Learnt to use independants since being ripped off by main dealers, although I've always serviced my own bike. Oil and filters isn't really difficult - is it
