If a cyclist goes through a green light and you knock him off you are in the wrong......

I can't understand the apparent hatred for cyclists....

They go through red lights becasue they can get away with it.
They go the wrong way down one way streets because they can get away with it.

As a motorcyclist, I filter through busy traffic because I can get away with it.
I park on the footpath because I can get away with it (most of the time).

How many of us filter to the front of the traffic at lights and stop in the big box with a picture of a cycle in it ??? (which, I was informed on a bikesafe day, is illegal and could get you points)

I wish people would lose the hypocritical attitude they have towards cyclists.

So, rant over.........for now.

For me it's a case of when they act like road users they can have the respect afforded to most road users. When they ignore the laws of the road they get treated as targets*. Seems fair.

*yes that includes cycling 2 or 3 abreast. And officially sanctioned cycle races and time trials on the public road? Disgusting, if we tried that on our bikes we'd be banned!

Oh my imagination has run riot. This could become a highly amusing game. Get a load of uber loud horns converging on a single spot a few feet ahead of the bike... then get a cross-hair mounted on the screen... take aim and fire! More skill needed at T-junctions for deflection shooting. And little cyclist graphics on your tank to keep score.

Top idea YC

Chris, I assume then that you obey all the laws of the road ?

Or, should I assume that you would like to be treated as a target......

Hmm, I do believe that there are certain events where road going vehicles use public roads and Must stick to the speed limit of the highway. Going between stages on rally events, for example.

Anyway, you wind up merchant. Do you not yourself ride a mountain bike?

Back in the days of riding around Plymouth, I was a target for chavs in Novas, taxi drivers, bus drivers and other road based yobs. I became the road warrior, I had a turbo charged MBK mountain bike and I was out for revenge... I ended up with some old bint warbling away while I had a fight in a... sorry bored of this joke now, you know where it was going and you probably got bored too.

I guess now you may understand why so many road users treat motorcyclists the way they do!

Cyclists are constrained by the same 'rules of the road' that anyone else are, some chose to break them (as do many motorcyclists) and if they are lucky get away with it (as do many motorcyclists). Bear in mind you probably don't notice the ones who don't break the law and the whole world does not revolve around towns/cities even London.

Would you agree if I said ALL motor cyclise are suicidal lawbreakers? Probably not but stand by the roadside on a Sunday afternoon (in the Summer) for a little while and you may get that Idea.

I can't understand why a group of people who are always bleating about being victimised don't see a little irony in this post! Mind you there's a lot of things I don't understand!

Having to stop at a red traffic light is always a completly stupid idea. (you should only have to give way to traffic with priority) So good luck to all the cyclists that only give way at red traffic lights.

But best not to do it in the City of London as the Police there do fine cyclists for doing it.

just to quote myself before people start talking about generalisations that are being made.

Big difference between parking somewhere cheeky, and bombing it down the wrong way on a one way street. And filterings gravy anyway. They don't seem to think their actions can have any consequences, yet if they collide with a motorbike, or another cyclist whose actually following the law, it could very well be nasty for both parties involved. What's more is cyclists can go fast. The fast 'pro-esque' type cyclists with their lycra that commute everyday are the ones that tick me off more, as you'd expect better from them. Some are fine, but some not so fine!

There are inconsiderate and dangerous bikers out there, and they are douche bags too. But I don't come across many that are willing to jump lights, and go down the wrong way street. If you are a biker and you could get away with doing do, then you're a dangerous moron too.

It's just yesterday, I was on a 1km stretch of a 1 way street and 3 seperate bicycles were bombing it down in the wrong direction.

Perhaps coppers can dish out fines to hooligan cyclists.

Also, I think I worded the thread title badly. By 'bus lane green lights' I meant being given the green light to use a bus lane so to speak. These basically.

Now the thing is, if that bicycle sign was not there, how many cyclists would give a toss anyway, if red lights and one way streets dont stop 'em? Genuine question, but has anyone here heard of a cyclist whose been fined for using a bus lane. Kinda hard with no reg plates to clock 'em right. Duno bout cyclists in your area, but a lot of them here in London jus don't give a damn.

oh and 'they' refers to moronic cyclists, not all cyclists. A lot of them around here, there's no doubt about that.

It's only the Morons that give the cyclists a bad name, I expect no-one notices cyclists obeying the highway code.
