Same as on most pre 999 ducati's and pre 01 RSV's...

The 4 pad ones on the later RSV's are these:

The later ones are supposed to have the better bite and strength, and if I keep my eye's out can get a pair in decent shape for under £100.

Out of interest what you mean S3/S4, unfortunatly that dont mean much to me
Nothing wrong with those 2 piece ones. You ride all year, monoblocks are a complete **** to service 'cos you can't get the pistons out.

4 pot calipers, even the old seize-tastic tokicos on GSXR600 SRADs are adequate for the road. If you riding with glazed pads and fluid that's mostly water* then they will feel CRAP and there's no amount of bling will solve it.

S3 - speed triple, S4 - speed four. Triumphs.

*Can't remember who it was, but they tested track day riders brake fluid and found on average 3% water content. Imagine how rubbish their brakes would have felt?

Hell I find *these* to be perfectly adequate for the road.

Yep that's a 2-pot sliding caliper.

I have one of those on GPZ. Maybe 2 are adequate, 1 isn't!

I think that's just because its a GPZ.

Seriously though, the brakes on the VFR are 21 years old, yes they *will* get out classed by a modern bike but only when you are this >< close to the limit. I've rebuilt them many a time and with OEM pads and braided lines they are spot on. With crap in the system, gunked up calipers and crap pads they were crap and scary.

The 4 pad ones arnt monoblocks! I made the mistake of thinking they were and got informed differently. The connecting bolts are hidden on the other side.

I have been on a friends RSV-R with the 4 pad calipers and OMFG endo with your little finger if you wanted, good! Seriously, I got back on my bike and it felt like I had no front brake!

I will get mine serviced as I think you are probably right, they probably just need a clean and a good bleed. Though the last time I had a good look at mine the pistons were pitted a little which cant be a good thing

Out of interest wont servicing need replacement seals etc? As I mention they arnt available... Basically it involved a red neck american and a law suit. (incase that dont make sense, a red neck tried doing it himself and screwed it up so now brembo dont sell them).

It is always best practice to have new seals to hand should you find the ones you remove during servicing are found to be perished or indeed you break one during removal, but it is not necessarily a given you will need to replace them. I serviced the brakes on the SV half a dozen times before I actually thought the seals needed replacing.

So its new caliper time if the seals are dodgy. Joy. They have done 31K miles as well so there is a chance that they might be knackered

What are your recommendations for deglazing pads?
