I don't mind having a land line for sky purposes, and yes that will be though sky, what I have a problem with is I need a mobile phone, but I cant use it at home, so I end up with a large BT bill at the end of every month and hundreds of left over free minutes on my phone.

If this vodaphone thing works then I can not have a call package on the land line, use it purely for data and use the mobile for calls.

How else will the OP get broadband Stu? If they are struggling to make voice calls in their location, they sure as hell won't be able to make data calls . If they can get a data only line through Sky that sounds like a cheap way to do this. I can certainly say that my phone bill has gone a lot now that I am able to use my mobile.

Numbers - the vodafone thing works, sounds like it may be what you need.

I thought 3 used 3G for voice as well, with a fallback to 2G where reception was poor. I read somewhere that 3 got shirty with people who were engineering their phones not to use 3G since 2G sounds clearer.
You certainly cant put a 3 sim into a 2G phone
