Put it on a tender once a week for a couple of hours (till its charged basically). This will get rid of all issues and keep the battery in tip top shape. From what you say to TLW this is hard? You can get 50 meter extensions though, surely that would be enough???

Cheers

Agreed. It does'nt have to live on the Optimate.A couple of hours charge once a week should do it.

Can you not buy higher capacity batteries, that also resist cold weather drain (Gel or calcium)?

Would be expensive to buy but would also be the easiest option and give peace of mind.

Cheers for the input guys.....

I have decided that the simplest option is that at LEAST every 2 weeks the bike will get a decent run out from now. The exception being when we hit September at which point it will be SORN'd.......we are then going to get a second battery and an optimate for through out the winter.

Actually, As the temp goes down drain from a lead acid follows it. Lead acid lose voltage faster the hotter they are...

As to larger battery, certainly does help! Judging from the picture you have a 955i? My old man has a sprint st and is now running a 14aH 220cca monster battery!
