You can get a loan for a used bike. Needing finance is no reason to buy new.

Call me old fashioned, but if you cant afford a used one,you certainly cant afford a new one.

The Kwak 250 is nice (but more $ new) As 250cc is the learner limit there are loads of them about, so picking up second-hand bits isn't too hard!
The Hyosung is also pretty popular - probably because it offers a nice package at a resonable price. Hyosung is much bigger in NZ than the UK, so sourcing parts may not be as difficult. There is even a Hyosung race series! I see just as many, if not more Hyosungs than SV on the roads. However, if I was in his shoes, I'd go 250cc 2-stroke. In fact I have been looking at these because they are so cheap out here! You can pick up some very tidy early 90s NSR250 or RGV250 for around the $3k mark and in a year, they will still be worth the same whereas a new Hyosung or Kawasaki will depreciate big time. Might seem a little nuts for a learner, but in the long run, a 250 stroker will be more fun (providing it doesn't blow up ![]() Cheers Luke |

And failing that (if he is really skint) Then get an old 250 enduro/crosser because those really are cheap here!

yeah i was talking to him about some of them earlier, they seem to have laods out there gixxer250, Cbrr250.
He said the same as you and the Hyosungs are plentiful over there, so i would imagine parts wont be too bad if needed. After have a look today I suggested the Honda VTR250, he needs reliability really as he doesnt get paid loads so is skint most of the time. ![]() |

FZR250 ZXR250 All of them are about the same price and a lot to choose from. I keep looking at 250 strokers though for myself! Check this out: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-270219533.htm Like the guy says - not great for a learner, but $4500! This is what I'm on the look out for at the moment. ![]() |

From a ninja650r man, ninja250r all the way!
![]() They look great, run and handle very well apparently, and I reckon he could prob keep it for quite a while, then move onto a bigger ninja. Like already said tho, its $, and mayb for a first bike (that he will inevitably drop, perhaps fall off a few times too!). If he can afford it, that's the one I'd recommend (altho I'm slightly biased perhaps)! |
