The Hero, and every other HTC Android phone bar the Magic in this country, ships with Android + a load of extra HTC apps to make it more useful. I guess the clock app you have is one of these. ![]() Still, it was the second Android phone out (The T-Mobile G1 being the first), so to be expected. |

I have a HTC Magic, since last April...don't have that many apps though so grabbing a few from this list
![]() Has anyone done the hack to get Google Maps satnav working? I haven't got round to it yet. Interesting to hear about end of March release for Android 2.1? I'm not sure if I'll get it on my phone - it's only a 192meg version not 288 like the Hero (and some versions of the Magic). I live in hope that they create a version for my phone! Off to Google about updates... P.s. Some apps I have... Aloqa: good alternative to Layar (I like the interface better and some of the functions available are excellent) Beebplayer: IPlayer on your phone Bonsai Blast/Gem Miner/Jewels: good games to have on there IMusic: good for finding music to listen to online (and, ahem, downloading if you want) Screebl Lite: keeps phone screen 'alive' when you're reading but not pressing buttons, works on angles Shazam: identifies music, on lots of other phones so you might have heard of it Labyrinth Lite: has cool effects (it's a game) Meebo/EBuddy: msn messaging apps |

It's an addon for google maps which adds turn by turn navigation
http://www.google.com/mobile/navigation/ At the moment its only available in the US but there is a hack to get it to work anywhere, although I have tried many times and cannot get it to work. I still think Co-Pilot is better though as it works when you don't have a mobile signal.

BUMP
Aloqa - One of those 'what's going on around you' and the best I've tried so far, search runs a good distance of a couple miles around you unlike 'Layar', also you can set it to look around a certain point on a map so if the GPS hasn't quite picked up where you are or you want to look for things around a place you are going to you can do. Quite a good one actually Drop box - Online repository for files, will still use photobucket for photos but MP3s and videos and documents will be good, if I go travelling anywhere I'll be putting scanned copies of insurances and things like that on it, then from any computer, my phone I can get them/download them MixZing - Media player, good player for music, I have the free version but am thinking of upgrading to the pay version (£4.50), it's not great with video, having said that the only video I currently have on the phone is a copy of 'The A Team' film (but the standard video player plays it fine). I also tried 'Nemo player' which gets good reviews but I thought it was ****e so uninstalled it Speedtest - Test your connection speed Tagreader - Reads Microsoft tags Hoccer - File transfer facility (also on Iphone), you select the file to transfer (picture, video, application) then you get the other phone with it installed either side by side and you just drag it from one screen to the other or you hold your phone (tightly) and pretend to throw it like a frisbe towards the other person and the other person just holds the phone up to 'catch' the file. Works well, been trying it today as I recently got a new work phone (HTC Desire). Works great Maps - The google maps on the device, check for an update, it's got street view on it, you just go to the street you want then press and hold on the street until the the little 'address' bubble appears, then tap that and the option to the right should be street view Postcards - Also on Iphone, send a postcard to someone either using a picture already on your phone or by taking a picture with your phone, then flip the card over and type the message and the address, it gets printed out and posted that day for either £1.49 first class or 99p second class, you have to pay by paypal though but it works over wifi so you could use it abroad without incurring big charges if you found wifi. Only thing that bugs me on this is that it gives you the option to pick an address from your contacts but it doesn't pull the address through, it does have a postcode search though Wire goggles - 80's up your photos, looks cool. Well, you have to take the photo through this application, it does not change existing pictures. Lookie see ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyone else got some good uns?

I've got 'Task Manager' by Rythm Software, it's goodish and has autokill but I'm not convinced by it's performance, the Hero does my head in as it's always got stuff running in the background like Stocks and twitter (I don't even use either of them but they are always on the list) but if I end all, then press and hold the home button to show what programs are open (like ctrl + alt on windows PC) they are still there??
