Myself I'd see what I can get for 3-4 k, and maybe tart it up a bit, rather than get a brand new old bike (SV pointy is now 7 years old, SV in total 11 years.) I got an SV because I wanted a bike that could do pretty much anything, and wasn't massively expensive for insurance and fuel. You have to decide what you want the bike to do, and find out what suits you in your price range, then test ride! |

in all honesty i took advice off people on here and mates and in the end none of the bikes worked for me. i would have killed myself on some of the bikes suggested and some although good bikes, were just wrong for me.
even if you go and have a sit on one you will get a feel if its the bike for you then you have to take it for a run. get yourself to a dealers, tell them you dont know what you want and if they are good they will let you test ride anything you fancy. some (like the ones near me) will tell you to take a walk even if you want to buy the bike. go figure |

whats the main differnces between the naked and faired sv's ? obviously there is the fairing and the drop down handle bars. some places say the foot pegs are further back and the gearing ratios are different???, so is the top end different and with that i take it suffers at the lower end ?

A tooth on the rear sprocket and an inch in the footpeg height if that. Not worth talking about TBH. They're still the same bike.

I went for a 929 Fireblade, I was going to get a gsxr 600 or similar but all the ones I found were either too expensive or had been thrashed within an each of their lives.
Because of the higher insurance younger riders seem to stick to 600s so most litre bikes seem to have been looked after better by more mature owners. The blade weighs the same as the blade but the handling is on another level. Yes it has more power and yes it can get you into trouble but if you keep it below 8k revs it's a pussycat. Can't really comment on comfort as I have only taken it on a couple of 30 min test rides. I sold my k5 sv and found a mint 2000 model with not many more miles on for £100 less. For 4k you could get a really nice 954 model and have some to spare.
