A HD turned up at the Ace once when I was there with a Staffie-type dog in a cage attached to the back. Both rider and dog were wearing regulation "bad-a** uniform" which was bad enouugh but the poor mutt looked rather shaken. Even a dog that size can move about and upset the handling so why on earth would you want to risk it with something the size of a lab?? Plus if you have a slightly nosey/irritating neighbour you're bound to get a visit from the RSPCA. Get a sidecar or trailer if you must take the dog with you.

Ophic, the thought of you taking Kaiser is outright hilarious.
On a serious note...I don't think I'd ever recommend it. I personally wouldn't want to put a dog in such a risky position because they will be way more likely to get hurt than a pillion rider as they are fastened to the bike. If you lose control and the bike flips or slides down the road and hits a curb that sends it up in the air, the dog will be going with it and it will either be bye bye dog or lots of time in the vets which is just not a risk I would ever want to take. I do think it's cute to see a little Jack russell or something in a carrier on the back of a cruiser in somewhere like America where the roads are much bigger, there's far less traffic and a MUCH lower motorcycle accident rate. Also, even the smallest of labs, just moving a little bit could see you, the dog and the bike on the floor. I don't know if I'd call the RSPCA about it if I saw it, but I certainly wouldn't feel that comfortable with it. Just my opinion though and all based on the safety of you and your dog. Blimey! I've seen dogs sat on rear seat, in back packs , in footwells on scooters but I've only ever seen something lab sized in a sidecar =p.
That said if you can teach him to ride the thing you can sit back and get some rest in ![]() |
