How much damage - helicoil wouldn't fix it would it?
@45000 it's just about run in.

Threads are stripped and the boss is cracked. You'd need to get the case welded, if that's possible, then fit a helicoil. That's if you can even get the now epoxy welded pressure switch back out. Still need to split the cases to do that anyway.

@45000, used all year and kept out on the street mostly uncovered it's still a perfectly good motorcycle so I don't want to break it. Newish bottom end and hopefully it'll be good for another 45000

Just put short bolts with crush washer and you done.
All parts are interchangeable between two except transmission clutch shaft.
Like Yorkie said, need to use stator/rotor from curvy on that 04 bottom.

what is different in shaft? Can you use old clutch on new shaft?

New one is longer, inside motor. You can use all parts and move them around, you just can't take whole shaft and put in other cases. 99-03 is same, changed in 04. Same with cases, 03 are specific for that year only.
