Join the club. I think it's par for the course after you've had someone knock you off. Was much the same after some one hit me from behind, and highsided me. I was luckier than you though as I only broke bones in both hands. By the time my plaster was off, pins were extracted (now that was a bit traumatic without painkillers), I had a new bike in the garage and was able to get out as soon as I was able to get gloves on.

Things will come right.

Sometimes broken minds need as much help as broken bones. The sound of screeching brakes has me climbing the nearest lamp post, and as for women drivers in blue Citroen Saxo's...

Do seek help. Don't let it fester. Don't worry, its a normal reaction to trauma that, just like a cast for a broken bone, requires the appropriate treatment.

Then get out on a bike and slowly work on getting your confidence back.

Good luck,
Bri

My first thought is that you've been sitting around looking at that cast for way too long. Morbid thoughts do have a tendency to fester. Do what you have to do to get those thoughts out of your head before they drive you nuts. With a positive outlook you'll be back at it in no time.

my mental head feck is well documented on this site after my 3 offs (none my fault),

im just starting to get back into it again , but the gremlims are still there at the min , note your riding ability will drop a bit due to not riding, so softy softy does it when your back on the bike,

just the other day i had a great experiance for about a hour where i did gel with the bike well and had that feeling again which put a big grin back on my face ,

but tbh im still getting back up to my previous standard again atm , im looking at a trackday to reinvigurate me and help my cornering which has went to sh1te,

but for that hour i remembered why i ride and it has givin me the will to keep trying to get back to where i was

it is coming , slowly but coming , give it a go when your ready just dont think it will happen straight away ,but i firmly belive it will come

Spot on Dave. No pun intended but that road sounds familiar.

I would say it is something that will subside over time. It might always be at the back of your mind but you just think "thats irrational" and try and push it back out of your mind. I often think "im not sure I want to go out on the bike" but as soon as I start it I feel better

Hope you recover both physically and mentally quickly! Take care.

Its nearly 4 years since my off.

There was no other party, just my own fault.

I still get the odd "flashback" - that term is a bit melodramatic, but I cant come up with a better one.

I still get butterflys when I go round the roundabout where it happened (even in the car)

BUT, none of these things are as bad now as they were initially, and I expect that they will eventually tend towards zero.

If I live that long!

Thanks you all for your kind thoughts and advice. It's helping out loads believe me. Always better to know that other people have been and are in the same boat and it's great to know that getting over this is possible. There are riders who succumbed to this experience and never rode again, which actually made their life worthless, at worse loosing jobs, turning into alcoholics or shutting themselves in their homes. I've researched quite a bit into this (I've a lot of time in my hands at the moment) and it all leads to that the best thing is to overcome one's fears.

As a follow up to my physical condition I'm happy to report that my leg is getting much stronger all of a sudden and made a drastic change for the better overnight. It still feels warmer to the touch than the other leg, a bit bloated and a little redder so still some way to go. No, I'm not going to do anything drastic like throwing away the crutches don't worry. Lozzo has warned me loads against doing such drastic measures as his friend ended up taking much longer to heal when he did this. But it changed my mood drastically as well. I also felt much better in my wife's car this morning on our way to physio.

Cheers guys and keep your stories coming. I think this is all good for all of us, sharing I mean, as it also helps to talk things out I find. So thumbs up, there's still life in this old dog yet!

I'm still in plaster, it's driving me mad but I can't wait to get back on. The only thing that has made me doubtful was my husband getting side swiped at a roundabout last week. That bothered me more than my own off, even though his injuries were minor. Yet I still get anxious every time I get in a black cab after witnessing a horrible accident last year where a passeger was thrown through the rear window.
