Waste of money TBH, as I know you won't be using them long. How do you think the reast of us go by...not with stupid partners niggling in our ears...then battering them with the offensive item we bought, cause they won't shut up ![]() If I wasn't pregnant I'd come out with you myself, girly riding, its a completely different kettle of fish that they can't get their head round ![]() ![]() BTW peeps Maria Knows I'm not meaning this in a harsh way at all, neither will Chris. I'm just in the mind that partners are great teachers, just give the advice when your at home, as sometimes rather than boosting confidence it does the opposite, when out on the road. And I want Maria out riding with me next year...mwahahahahahaaaaaaaa

Well if im honest i can see where shes coming from wanting a radio. I did after i passed my test.....
Basically i think she will just be after a little encouragement (you know like your doing fine, watch out for the car etc) while your going through the first month maybe. After that yea they will be no good but you could always sell them on? Getting on a bike is much different to learning in a car. You don’t have the guidance of someone telling you what your doing right and wrong. (im sure your fantastic with the freelander dizzy and you haven’t needed a single bit of advice yet) but i had bugger all clue what i was doing on a bike (and still don’t half the time) when i started If it makes you happy (on a long ride) go and get some but staring out small and building up it will come just don’t push it. I think my first proper ride out was the hardy bikers 2 years ago. Christ it was scary and i would have loved some kind of radio (think i suggested it at the time) actually it turned out i was alright without them. I agree on your other half telling you stuff tho. I’ve had it with our lass when skiing/boarding and allsorts really but basically im a c88t etc and not a nice person when it comes to telling people what to do J |

![]() Remember, a long time ago I had a 125 too! Now thing is back then, I went out on rides with Matt, and a mate(that was luckily an ex instructor) what they did was if they saw me do anything wrong, and perhaps get in a tangle, or indeed if my positioning wasn't quite right, I'd see them back me up the rear, in the way of protection...a little like saying 'oi car drivers, heres a Learner, please give a little room. Whenever we stopped or got home Dean would give me the run down on the good points, and bad points, and advise on how to tackle on the next run out. In this way, there was no pressure in my helmet to perform to how they would be wanting me to ride, which can be a hinderance occasionally. Yes I totally understand why she wants them...but I think she and Chris would be better off saying, righto the weather is perfect tomorrow, why don't we plan a trip to where Maria fancies going, and go.....no matter how long it takes to get there. See when I passed my CBT, it was my best mates 40th in Goole, it took four hours, and Suzy(and Matt) getting hot, and the fan being permanently on, with Alex in the car behind(hes also a biker), to get to Goole, made loads of mistakes on the way, but I was determined I wanted to show me bestest burd I'd get to her party by hook nor crook. Baptism of fire to some, but it reallly did feel damn good, then over a few beers Alex and Matt had a good chat with the ups and downs, and it gave me tremendous help. Unfortunately, once I'd passed my DAS Matt expected me to be some riding god, and be able to do what he does on the road....the patience of my L plates era had gone, and every time we stopped, or got home, the pee takes and bad critisism took its toll on my confidence...and sometimes on occasions, although Chris joined in, her added to it too. Maria...get out and ride girl, ya did the hard part on the CBT, now go fly ![]() In fact, I'm going to give you a challenge MAria, go out with Chris a couple of times to build up your confidence, then I want you to come up here, on your own and have a nice cuppa and cake. Bearing in mind peeps, I live about a mile away ![]()

Hmmmmmmm, whilst I understand the perceived advantages here ( as in the safety blanket in your ear and encouragement) I'm not sure it's the best way at all.
You've been given the basic tools to do the job Maria and those are what you should be now practising, no one can actually make you better at those but yourself. I understand you'll be naturally a bit nervous but that is totally natural and to be expected, rather than getting a constant update whilst doing the riding, stop agree what the aim of the next bit is ( better road position or what ever) and where you'll next stop, get Chris to ride in front sticking to a basic plan, and you follow, you then have two aids, the example in front and your training, after you've done that, do it again, this time with Chris following you, stop at the end as before and discuss any issues, repeat until you're happy you at least know what to practise. At this stage mid session "suggestions or corrections" are going to be little more than a distraction and possiblity just serve to unnerve you. Cheers Mark.
