Loved 400s when I first started riding. Even then though they were a bitch to get parts for, especially the imported ones. How that stands now with ebay vs the age of the machines is another matter though.

Great fun scratching bikes - agree with fastdruid that the Hondas were the best of the bunch. Also worth mentioning the CB1 - not a race bike but an awesome bike to cane around town. Redline was 14,000 rpm iirc

ZXR.

Cheaper than the Honda RC.

tbh, I wouldn't touch any others. FZR is meant to be quite fragile.

I get the appeal of 400, but limited bikes that i'd want in this engine size.

The only real appeal is the cheap price to buy one.

I'm riding my Bro's CBR400RRrrRRRrrr at the moment, as my indicator problem is perpetuating.

It's lots of fun, but there's fuelling issues and it's got no legs under 4000rpm. The bike desperately needs a service, but Bro's unemployed at the mo, so it'll more likely get SORN'ed for now, until he gets a new job... (I'll help if I can- but my 11 year old SV seems to have become a money pit...).

I'd love a go of an NC30.

400s are great in the way the SV is great- you can use all of the bike on the road. They also turn amAAAAzingly and as you're so much closer to the road, it feels more exhilarating! Total grin factor!

Hmmm ill keep my eye out for it about the place.
You still commuting along the Portsmouth road donal?

The only problem is i wouldnt touch one without seeing it and hearing it start and run before even looking at my wallet as i know how they can be, which is hard as there arnt to many around here, anything good is alot further afield.

Finding spares for a GSXR400 will be a nightmare & they were the worst of the bunch anyway.

1 nc30/35 probably least likely to be knackered. Complicated & expensive to fix if it goes wrong though.

2) FZR3tj - goodluck finding one that isn't stupidly expensive or thrashed to death

3) CBR400 Tri or Gull - probably lots to choose from - Gull newer/ Tri better engine

4) The other FZR - Old

& avoid anything with 16" front wheel IMO

RGV250 or a TZR250 gets my vote.

Edit: Welcome to have a go on my CBR when it's back together.

Ill hold you to that one

Strokers are a no go unless i got a mito but id probably just sit and look at it all day rather than ride it.

ZXR400 is a good idea actually.

Well you should learn how to brake properly and take a corner at speed then.

I've had a NC24 and the most fun sprts bike ove owned so far. Stright line they are good for about 120 but round the twisties they are so much fun.

Bought for £400 outlay to get it past the MOT less than £200 had to get new reg/rec £60 then used it for a about a year and now wish i never got rid of it.

Friends got a ZXR400 for sale, W reg got about 20,000 on the clock got a few spairs with it too. Front and rear wheels and tyres. Think he wants about £1,700 PM me if you want more info.
