I've used Diablo Strada's or Metzeler Roadtec Z6 which is the same tyre, for four years. They are not a budget tyre, they have just been replaced by the Angel ST, so tyre dealers are getting rid of old stock cheap. They were the favourite tyre for the SV in their time. 33/36 for pressures, unless you've tried that and found you prefer something different.

I've got too say had 1 front and 3 rears of this tyre (due to punctures anyone remember ar10?).

They are fantastic and transformed the handling of my bike. I don't have much to compare them off other than a few more rubbish tyres. But they seem to last well and once hot the grip is excellent. I've still to try Avon Storms however so can't compare.
Cheaper though than the Storm and do an excellent job. i run them at 30/36.

I think I'm going to get a pair of these next week (£150). My Conti RoadAttacks are perished pretty bad and don't want to take any risks. I also considered the Angel ST's at (£210) but I doubt they're that much better than the Stradas. Or I could go for the also highly rated Avon Storm 2's at (£170) worth the extra £20 over the Stradas? Anyone had both to compare?

I won't be doing any track days or anything, but I will be riding in most weathers this year becasue I'm doing that ROSPA thing. The RoadAttacks were my first tyre on my first bike so can't really give any reviews, plus they were half worn when I got the bike, so not really fair.

£150 quid is a good price for two tyres if that price is fitted. The Angel ST are dual compound, so they may last longer than the Strada, but I doubt they will last more than £60 quids worth of tyre tread longer.

Avon Storms better than Strada, don't know, never ridden on them, but then has anybody who raves about the Avon Storm ever ridden on the Strada? You need to take tyre recommendations with a pinch of salt, because it's a very personal thing and there are an awful lot of new riders on SV650's who may only ever have tried one or two tyre types. Tyres also have a tendency to become "fashionable" on the .org, so because a few people buy them and they then recommend them, everyone buys them, and they become the latest tyre "must have". Everyone wants to say the 170 quid they have just spent has been spent on the best thing out there, but compared to the squared off tyres they have just taken off, any tyre would feel great.

I'm not knocking Avon Storms, I have never ridden on them, they could be great, I am just challenging the reason why they've become so popular on the .org. Are Avon really cheaper AND miles ahead of the competitors in performance?

I have had both, mileage is not much different.
The storms rear profile is crap and the tyres look very square, very quick. The chicken strip on the back vanishes too easily for my liking and they slide all too often at lean.Good feedback though.
Strada turns faster, better feedback, work better cold, predictable slides and keep their profiles well.don`t expect 2 rears to one front, more like 1.5 rears to a front.
You can get to the edge, with some ground clearance still left but not much

As a note the Angel ST rear is the same sort of profile as a storm.Strada is nearer a diablo rear.
This is of course just my humble

Yeah I understand what you're saying Ralph, every new pair is going to feel great compared, it's difficult to compare with a new pair you had 8k miles ago! You rarely hear a bad tyre review for that reason.
I won't give reviews on tyres yet (not enough riding experience). I doubt that there's much difference between the current top brands though, they all invest millions into tyre design and testing.

Thanks for the comparative review kerby, it's much appreciated.
I've now decided to go for the Angel ST's because I can get the pair for £180 through work (wholesale suppliers) and obviously fit them myself. And I want the latest.

I'd agree with just about all of that. I'd add I found the Storms so much better in the wet though. I just couldn't believe the grip they give in wet conditions. It really took me by surprise. But I found the Storms also wore out far quicker than I would have expected. I know others who had double the mileage I got out of mine and it was the wear on the sides that wore out not the middle of the tyres. Go figure.

i thought the tyres i bought my bike on were good till i put the stradas on, but next time round im going for sportsmarts, ive got nothing against these tyres and i do rate them, but i want to try the tyres i wanted but couldnt afford last time. some people found these tyres very easy to get knee down on, i didnt, but really i think thats just a confidence issue with me. 2011 will be the year i either get my knee down or my whole body and the bike down.
