Wow you sound like me dad, teeth like a horse that last forever!!
He didn't go to the dentist for around the same length of time, but he was sent away saying come back in another 20 yrs!

I go to the dentist every year, but its purely for him to grin with satisfaction at seeing great teeth, apparently its a rarity these days, must run in the family!

I get sent away with just a quick tickle with a polishing brush, I think I'd faint if they told me what your having, I hate needles

You got the choice of a valium injection? I was injected 6 times with a local anaesthetic before they realised it wasn't going to kick in and I was a nervous wreck. That was a couple of years ago. I still have half a tooth that needs to come out but I'm not going till I'm in such agony that the drugs don't work. Unfortunately the pain is slowly starting to come back. Half a tooth fell out so I bathed it in salt water and it healed up fine, I'm really hoping the other half is going to come out as easily...Feckin dentists

My fear led me to pull one of the roots just after the AR, and there was no anaesthesia involved.

You could at least have had the appointment at 2.30.

I don't mind the dentist, it's the hygienist that I can't bear. That scrape and polish business is horrible.

I've heard of people doing that sort of thing to get rid of the agony, but never out of fear. That surely must have hurt somewhat

It did smart a tadge.

My original fear dates back to a faulty anaesthetic machine when I was at the dentists as a 12 yr old. They couldn't wake me immediately after, and not for the next several hours. Almost a full day before I came to fully.

I can understand that. My fear of needles stems from being in A&E as a child and some doctor throwing one at me like a dart from the other end of the cubical thingy. I mean he could have just stood next to me instead of six foot away!
It hurt like hell, its not supposed to.

I have a mild fear of the dentist, but the way I look at it is that the pain the dentist will cause me will be nothing compared to what it will be if I leave it the way it is. There's nowt worse than toothache!

I don't have a fear of needles - just a fear of blood tests. Don't know why but I always pass out. Nothing to do with the sight of blood as I don't mind that; just has something do with taking blood out of my body. If I don't lie down, I'll go out like a light - every time. Funny thing is, it is strangely relaxing and euphoric and for the first 10 secs after coming round, I have no idea where I am or who anyone is - even my own girlfriend last time!

I really have to be careful - one time I passed out, fell off the chair and smacked my head on the radiator on the way down.

I go every six months i've got bad soft teeth so need to be careful. Spent years in various braces and head contraptions to sort my teeth out. never been afraid until recently when due to an emergency I went to another dentist (same practice). had 5 injections for a filling ( it always takes it time to kick in with me) totally frozen for most of the day, ended up with cut gums and cut lips and swollen lips. Had a presentation with a paramedic 5 hours later and he thought I'd been beaten up. and after that I did not want to got back.
taken me a awhile to get it sorted but I'm back in a fortnight with my own dentist - thankfully. (his brown eyes and bike stories are the best anasthetic i know)
