I dislike the commercialisation of it.

Small person goes to a Catholic school, so understands the Christian message behind it, but also has an interesting grasp of the Pagan celebration - ie why we bring the real tree indoors etc She knows there was a celebration in December before Jesus being born iyswim.

I'm having friends over for Xmas and I think we are all looking forward to seeing small person excited. My folks will come along too.

I'm really excited about it, I love Xmas and it has become such a big deal for me, since my Gran died 18 years ago on Xmas day and I found her in her bed. I want the small person to have happy memories of fun and friends at christmas.

When I was a child Xmas at home was fantastic, and I've carried on from there. There are a number of family Xmas traditions I've kept going, like the Xmas picnic a midnight on Xmas Eve in front of a roaring fire. Loads of lovely grub, wine, sherry.

As to the commercial hype. I ignore it and get on doing what we've always done.
With Bri on this. I love Christmas time, did even before I had children and always have. If you don't like the commercialisation then don't take part in that aspect of it. It's a consequence of living in a consumer society (and what a disgusting notion that is too!).

I never used to like it, reasons are well known. And clients are so demanding, they can have Christmas but their lawyer can't. So I used to work silly hours and then wake up in the night worrying about whether I'd done whatever, go into the office between Christmas and New Year, and generally feel exhausted.

Well I don't have any clients any more so that's no longer an issue. Sophie's enthusiasm is infectious, and for the first time in years I'm looking forward to it all

It will be simple, but that's all that's needed

Happy Christmas everyone

I'm not into christmas at the best of times but am really struggling this year.
I'm collecting Mum from Preterborough tomorrow and were having a non christmas.
No tree, stupid decorations or bloody turkey either.

Main reason is that neither of us feel like it this year as its the first year without my dad around.

Think you have summed it up for me perfectly there!

I'm getting into it now, I like seeing my best friends and family. Ok yeah, I do that all year round, but as most of them live far away it's nice to entertain them for a change. And me family have some bizzare traditions.
I ignore the commercial side, I don't buy cards, and people only get simple presents, I prefer to get them something useful. For example this year I paid my parents gas and electric bill.

I must admit, I hate the way christmas is all advertised as being a family thing, and I really feel for those alone at christmas, must be so depressing.

I don't care about it. The last week or so I've been too busy worrying about getting to and from work, and ensuring there's food in the house and the heating is working, to care about sodding Christmas. I am so happy just to get home every night safe and sound that I suppose I'm inadvertantly appreciating the real side of things - of being thankful for everything you've got and for your life.

It doesn't help having a birthday four days before, I've given up trying to organize any sort of night out or get together.
