The SV is lacking in comparison to a more expensive sports bike, not just in the brakes. ,but remember it is a budget bike and all the higher performance equipment costs money and this is left off to keep the price down. Even standard brakes will toss you over the handlebars.

Minor derail:
What does changing to braided lines actually do? I know they are better than stock hose as they dont expand. But what is the end material result? Just curious as I have stock, have thought about braided lines but then put it off becuase stock brakes seem ok to me. Maybe I'm just not knowing what I'm missing? |

Better feel, means you can modulate force easily rather than having to move your finger half an inch if you need to back off a bit like when rear starts coming up. Also makes it much easier to get on the brakes quickly.
IMO they are vital.

Yeah I knew that bit, just didnt fully understand the practical effects. I always just knew it was "better"

When I ride a bike without braided hoses now they just feel a bit wierd and spongy. For £40 they are well worth it.

![]() Braided hoses are in some ways over rated. OE lines are of course very expensive so makes sense to replace with braided lines once it's time to replace them. You say "weird and spongy", I say "great feel" ![]() |

More of the effort that you expend in pulling the lever is passed into making the pads press on the disc. But see below:
Yes they do, just rather less, and if your standard lines are in good condition they don't expand appreciably either. Quote:

Also stiffer brakes reduce feel they do not improve it, think about this.

Cant say i noticed any real difference riding a bike before and after braided lines. Serviced and bleed correctly; i think the SV brakes are good, but then im not a fat beast lol.
