Tough mate, because most work experience kids we have here couldn't give a monkeys about work, say they want to be in 'IT' then when asked what they might like to do within IT say, "computers and stuff"...
In all my years here we have had 2 excellent work experience kids and we offered jobs to both of them as/when they left school. Seriously! |

Yeah.
That's why I don't want kids fresh out of school...I want someone who is either much older, and by chance my requirements suit theirs, or someone who has left school for a few years and has "grown up" a bit. Sterotyping of course, I know not all kids are like that. Most are though! |

I think you might be rating permanent staff as more trouble than they actually are. I work with many excellent quality permanent IT staff who are extremely flexible and not at all like the 9to5 /1 hr lunch brigade that you compare us to.
Seems to me that if an employer shows mutual trust, respect and flexibility as they expect from their staff then they can often get it in return. If you are looking for somebody who wants the pay and that you can get rid of at the drop of a hat then contractors are perfect for you. For commited permanent staff though you'll need something to offer in return. These skills are hard to come by at the moment. |

Flymo, I'm not saying all 9-5 perms are all like that, not at all.
The reason there is more of a emphasis on contracting at the moment is due to this being a trial period as for them as it is for me. |

I sort of agree with Flymo all of my team know that, on occasion, they will be expected to work through and do what it takes to get everything back up and running etc.
Did have one 9-5 er, but they didn't last long. |

I'm not a 9-5er ...
I'm a 8-7 days and 7-8 night-er Looks like an interesting proposition Hong, as you know I live over the road from you and I have car and bike licences - if I didn't need the money that I'm getting from this current job I'd definitely be interested in a chat with you! |
