Anyways, Tim - let dp out of the wardrobe and start serious partying! Then they'd know what a real bar bill looked like.

You need to train your customers better. When visiting a customer is in both your interests to arrange a night out. You get to expense the meal, and they also get a copy of the receipt and use that to expense the beer bill.
OK, you'll both be a bit the worse for wear in the morning. But the accounting numpties don't need to know how it's funded. |

I lived four nights a week in the Holiday Inn in Fareham for nine months... Quite how I avoided suicide is amazing. Knew all the staff by their first names, knew the menu backwards, got fed up of the rubbish beer they had on tap. I started annoying everyone around me by taking my guitar with me after a while - tee hee.
And all HR departments are the same. Ours also thinks we can live on the price of a starter and a glass of tap water each day and get funny if you even glance at the wine list! I gave up claiming for lunch (was entitled to) as it was not worth the grief.

Well count yourself lucky. All of our training course have now gone virtual. So you stay at home in ya pants doing a course. A bit of a pi*ser is that i bought a monthly train ticket and didnt have to travel anywhere, so wasted £35 that week. Great! An no, i cant claim it back.

I went London a couple of months ago for an exam and stayed overnight the night before. Had £10 allowance for breakfast and a full english was £19.95
![]() They allowed me £15 for evening meal and it was almost £20 for a pie and chips! |

I have the same, breakfast (at whatever cost), and 20 quid allowance for the evening meal and drinks, included in the hotel bill which is paid through our travel agent and doesn't go through expenses. If I'm staying in a hotel where the average main course is 18 quid, and it just is not reasonable to expect to get a meal for 20 quid, I pay the extra in the morning when I check out, and if it's more than a couple of quid I stick that invoice through expenses. My boss signs it off and doesn't knock it back because I tell him I was in a hotel miles from nowhere and the average main course was £18 quid! The included bill is for food and drink, but must include food, otherwise the hotel is instructed to charge you on check out. So I get a plate of nachos or something from the starters menu for a fiver (and perhaps don't eat it), and spend 15 quid on booze, get my colleagues to do the same, then go out to a restaurant and I pay for everyone's food and drink and stick that bill though expenses with all of their names on. Nobody ever reconciles what they have spent at the hotel vs what I have spent on their dinner. So if three of us in a night spend less than £120 quid, we are laughing so long as we charge the right things to the right places at the right time. |

Welcome to my world Tim, I spend quite a few nights away a week in the same hotels.
We've narrowed down which ones are good & which ones to avoid. Our previous HR deal was up to £26 but only actual expenditure, so we ate well & spent up to the £26, but rarely over. Plus we got £4.25 for luch, whatever you spent. Everyone normally ate out in the evening and it was good socially. Now we get £26 flat rate with no lunch. So everyone spends as little as they can, and eats in their room. I'd prefer to be on actuals now. I'd like to meet these people who expect us to work away from home and eat ****e food. Best hotel by far, Staybridge Suite's in Liverpool as you have your own cooker, hob & microwave, so I can get a decent takeaway from M&S and have some left over for a drink. Laptop & a HD media player with all my movies on saves getting too bored
