I was in the market for a new or nearly new bike but there is no way i'm willing to pay £8000 plus for a 600. If the prices don't become sensible then people just won't spend out. My salary hasn't shot up to cope with the price so sensibly I just won't buy one. I trust the majority of people are in a similiar situation.
Totally agree. Trouble is us dealers cant reduce the prices to sell bikes at what they were as the manufacturer has a set price at which they sell to us and that has risen vastly along with the other overheads. Deals can be done but some sales now are attracting only £50 profit.

Thats not going to keep a business in business for long. TBH it just wouldnt be worth running as a franchised dealer for that. Id be better off to get a normal 9-5, five day a week job that would pay me more for less hassle.

I know, I didn't mean to come across blaming the dealer. You don't control the prices either. It just annoys me when I konw what the bikes were selling for 2 years ago and they have gone up by 25% but are no different in quality.

When all the manufacturers sales are down they might take notice. Some are even pushing 0% for 5 years now. Half a decade paying something off. I know a kawasaki dealer fairly well and they make hardly anything on new bikes, they make far more out of used ones.

Supply and demand are going to be a killer in the next few months too. The things going on in Japan are already hitting the car market. Short weeks are planned at the Honda Car Factory in UK because they don't have the parts to make them. its going to hit the bike market too...

Everything is going up, daily consumables by some 300% in some case, fuel, heating etc. Its all down to oil, wheat and materials and exchange rates. If we had more manufacturing in the UK we would have more control over prices. Since everyone has been following the cheapest is best policy for too many years now outsourcing manufacturing to cheaper countries the UK is loosing out.

I think the manufacturers would do everything they can to bring down prices as less high street sales means less profit for them on a huge scale. Trouble is their hands are tied when it comes to materials they buy in, blame alot of that on China!.

My wage is the same as it was 7 years ago..
