Well to be honest this is my opinion! But the bike I just bought is covered in thick old chain oil it's never been cleaned and new oil sprayed on it, so it needs sorting... Pressure washer it is... Oh I mean muk-off!

Thanks chaps, will go buy something this weekend

I use WURTH chain cleaner and a 3 sided chain brush. I do have a mate who says the best way is to use a cloth soaked in diesel....just don't leave a puddle on the garage floor!

I disagree to an extent.
Fit a scottoiler, THEN you can ignore cleaning the chain.

Normal lube is crap and just forms grinding paste.

There was one of those on mine when i bought it. Problem is they seem to be either great or rubbish. Mine was either on full and poured oil all over back tyre or was off and did nothing. I got sick of it so ripped it off and put it in the bin.

Mine aswell, I have a scottoiler on the sv and on the lowest setting my rear wheel gets absolutely coated!

I use Wurth dry chain oil in a spray can, read some good reviews which is why I got it.

Mines worked fine for tens of thousands of miles. I'm fairly sure it paid for itself within the first chain (which lasted over 30k)

Mine works a treat too. The chain is constantly clean and oiled and there's pretty much no oil on the rear wheel.

got a scottoiler and its quite tempramental. sometimes it leaks on the floor, sometimes it doesnt.

Yea there good when they work but sometimes they just annoyme. it also makes me not clean the chain as much which tbh i think you need to do whether its got oil or lube on it. just not as much with oil i will admit.

personally i dont like the wurth stuff (many do as it doesnt fling) as it doesnt last once wet and is even worse than the muc off stuff im currently using. castrol racing chain lube is far superior imo.

sometimes it's more harm than good, it's common sense to decide which. Cleaning it with paraffin won't shift rust anyway, just the greasy stuff.
