Default Re: Can a gearbox "get used" to low oil?

Sign of not finding the neutral is usually an overfill , the way to check an SV engine with oil is to start the bike up , let it run til it gets to around 80 degrees or about 3 minutes . Then switch it off and wait 3 minutes . Tip the bike vertically and look into the sight glass . It should not be higher than the top line . I used to fill close to it and found the gearbox was a right "Charlie Hunt" to select neutral . I have found that my bike will always settle down to just around the 3/4 full mark after a few spirited rides and then never loses any after that .... I fling the occasional glug in there once a while for the hell of it .
