as i said i had the XL2 IQ http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165685 and it has no way to use itinerary planning. i had a good old dig around the system and there is no option for itinerary planning none nada same as the Start 20.

...and make sure you zoom in and put the waypoint on the right side of the carriageway. I marked one en-route to Cardiff last year and when I was on a dual carriageway it suddenly told me to do a u-turn !, needless to say I didn't (unlike some numpties that follow instructions no matter what). Turned out I had put the waypoint on the wrong side of the dual carriageway so I had to pull over and mark it as visited or it would have had me going in circles all frigging day.

Sorry, didn't realise....a GO series tomtom of any kind would be the ticket, plus they still have an SD card slot (which you want if you will do "free" upgrades later on). The newer models seem to have lost the SD card slot

Not sure, maybe if you install tomtom home on your PC and connect it up it will restore what is needed? I know with my tomtom if I were to wipe the device and dock, tomtom home would set it up again but that's on the basis it is installed already....worth a shot though I'd say!

Cracking maps etc and copying them onto a device is possible but it's complicated and I am not the best teacher....visit http://gpsunderground.com/forum/gps-...m-gps-systems/ or similar to find out more

wooohooooooo.... Garmin does it. get in there.

got the Garmin NUVI 1410 and it works flawlessly with TYRE

i is a happy bunny

its a bit weird to get the route as you have to import it once its in the unit but apart from that its easy peasy lemon squeezy. ooohhh and it does not optimise unless you want it to, so it uses the route that i set out in TYRE with no modifications.

The good thing about TYRE is it uses google maps which is excellent, I was putting my waypoints on the correct side of the motorways about 1/2Km before the turn offs for the route I wanted to take.

Also - if you start a route with way points it will take you to the first waypoint on the list - even if it was originally a start point for a route and you are not there! We had planned to go from Nurburgring to Remagen. We ended up going back to the hotel 10Km away as one of our group forgot to bring his wallet lol. The route wanted us to go back to nurburgring before going onto the other waypoints - I only clicked onto this as we headed through Adenau - ie going in the wrong direction Easy done when you are somewhere you have little clue about!

Like I said - much learned now

As for Tomtoms with SD slots My old One XL has one, seems it will use the map stored on the SD card first if there is one on it but it takes aaaaages to load. I ended up using the one originally on it after doing the button reset.

And I used one of these wired into the bike to charge it http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/products...harging-cable/
