Me neither. Still riles me to see folks wearing shorts and vest tops on the bikes, I know it's up to them to make mistakes but its the ignorance that gets me. Maybe as part of the CBT when they demonstrate what a lid looks like inside when it's been twonked on the tarmac they should have some graphic photos of gravel rash and see how quickly they whack some protective stuff on. It's their families I feel for.

The restrictive legislation will arrive by default if we all sit back and do no more than tut about this sort of lunatic riding. I'm not quite sure what it is possible to do about people who behave in that way though.
My concern though is as I said at the start, mostly about the possibility of someone innocent being in the way.
I think some of the nuggets on the road who ride without due care etc would do the same on a pair of roller skates. Some people just want to do there thing and aren't bothered about anyone else.

Asked a scooter boy in vest and shorts if he knew what gravel rash was and he said its what people that fall off get and it wouldn't happen to him so why should he waste money on expensive gear.

It never fails to amaze me how reckless people can be. There's no excuse for endangering yourself and other road users.
Also echo the opinions on protective clothing being a requisite part of a CBT or test. No gear no ride.

Hope your FIL is on the mend.

Don't open your eyes in Spain, Portugal, Greece etc then, I went to Crete a few weeks ago and it amazed me even helmets were optional.
Glamourous women wearing heels, dresses, skirts and strappy tops with no lids all riding big scoots.

Seen a ton of people wearing lids with the strap just hanging and not done up, lid would come off before they touched the floor.

I was out for a bimble on Sunday, and whenever we were riding along this bit of the road this bloke on a blue SV kept hobbling along at 30mph in the middle lane, 's ok we managed to get past him easily enough

No?

Er...no, not me!

If I had been then perhaps I may have been in some part responsible in the way that the drivers of immaculate 15 year old Rovers doing that speed are responsible for a degree of the frustration that builds up behind them. I was busy "making progress" though...

Tis the season of knobs

Got passed by a rider on an BMW GS wearing T shirt, flip flops, no gloves at 85 on the M2

Plenty of others on the M25 dressed similarly
