Got a cuppa or a beer?

A few years ago four of us went along that road to Bonchester Bridge, I was 3rd in line.
There is a downhill right hander with a really late apex and a flat camber. 2nd guy gets on the grass before he is completely round, onto the rough and down in to a shallow ditch and bike flips and tags him (GSX1400).
I'm passing and watching all this happen disbelieveingly. So I pull in and stop along with the 1st guy.
Then hear breaking plastic, and here comes bike number 4 (mint RVF400) right across the rough ground and into an embankment.

Both guys ok, but the guy that flipped needs to get to hospital. Cops. Air ambulance flies in before an ambulance arrives. Mate strapped on stretcher put in chopper. Pilot sees some smoke from the engine compartment. Mate gets pulled out and put into normal ambulance.

By this time the granny who phoned for help after hearing the commotion and whose holiday home is maybe 60yds along the road has brought over a fat file of correspondence with the local and regional councils about getting this corner "better". She was waiting to here about a supposed Euro grant to finally get the job fixed right. Already has beautiful surface, much extended run-off and plenty of signage. "But all I want is to hear the motorcycles go past, not stop anymore." she says. The local cops there concur its a bad one.

By this time Roy Schneider has fixed Blue Thunder and our mate has been put back into it and we all coo when it takes off... and at the big tailbacks of cars and bikes.

RVF400 gets pillioned back to Glasgow by myself and my other bud goes to the hospital to see whats happening.

Get a phone call late at night from our star crasher (after discharging himself and getting pillioned back to Glasgow) to go back and collect the two scappers in a van from the grannys shed.
From the opposite direction I joke that we should slow down cos I think we are near and sure enough come round the corner to see a cop in the road waving us down. Then seeing an ambulance and then the copter in the middle of the road again. Mostly same crews and cops! Ah old friends.

4 Geordies down. 2 walking and talking and smoking. Busted collar bone and broken arm was the worst of it. More bikes for Grannys shed.

A few years later a run out on the same road of a dozen bikes, we stop at a junction at the end of the road. Do a count. One missing.

Carnage corner gets another sprinkling of bent and broken metal and shattered plastics. No injuries apart from pride.

Down that road 3 times, 7 bikes down on the same corner.

A Hislop favourite road apparently.

Safe riding!
