Half of the people rioting were even too stupid to cover their faces, so shouldn't be that hard for the police to identify.

But rioting and looting does happen in economic downturns far more than when things are easy. That doesnt make it right or acceptable but theres nought wrong with saying so.History is littered with examples of mobs rioting when they no longer enjoy the standard of living they thought they should get.

^^Would be nice for a (supposedly) sensible politician to wait for the smoke to die out before scoring cheap campaign points rather than just giving people more excuses. Not that they seem to need any excuse.

Also feel quite sorry for the police in this. Whatever they do they'll be criticised for either being heavy handed or under-prepared.

Clearly another black mark in Tottenham history.

Interestingly enough the 1980´s riots started in exactly the same manner and was ignited by a very similar event. This time instead of a black woman it was a young black man that got shot and killed.

I would say that history´s lesson´s haven’t been learnt, if the police had handled this shooting in a more open and clear manner with the mourning family, perhaps this wouldn’t have been given the starting point of the riots we saw last night.

Don’t get me wrong, I completely condem the actions of those that saw the events as an opportunity for criminal activity, completely unacceptable behavior and all those involved I hope are caught by the police and brought to court. Sadly I suspect that in that area the youth involved are well known already to the police.

So whilst last night’s events were completely atrocious I am saddened that a peaceful protest was not handled taking the situation seriously enough to understand that after nightfall this situation was bound to escalate.

I am sure there is another point of view to these incidents and I welcome being enlightened, obviously there are situations here that we don’t yet know the full story of however, I am giving the above options based on the news information I have been following throughout today.

Phone interview on the BBC. Can't quote it accuratly, but his reasoning was that this was due to the budget cuts, there weren't enough police to deal with it, and basically it was due to these teenagers not being able to get college places.

No mention of Mark Duggan. No condemnation of the violence (which the local Labour MP has done, and I'm sure he would like to be backed up by such a visible party member).

Not saying that some of it isn't true. It just came across as using it to try and boost his support.

I'm not convinced that it's actually anything to do with the Police not being open about the shooting because the details the Police have given are being called lies by the family anyway. They are allegedly saying that he didn't shoot at the Police and that the radio with the bullet has been fabricated.....
