Surely desperately trying to flag down the emergency vehicle by the two people who stopped gives an indication. Wiltshire police are trying to establish if he was already dead? WTF ---Its ok to run dead people over then if you drive an ambulance---- just don't bother checking first.
The ambulance driver is still responsible for his actions even if he does have blues and twos on-----e.g. just as likely to have been a kid that had fallen off a bike.

Unfortunate course of events and no doubt having effects on both the driver and the family, tragic result.

Really?!!! Is that a fact? Were you there? Did you see what happened? Do you know for certain what the visibility was like or the prevailing weather conditions? Have you ever had to transport a patient under blue light conditions? I'll wager that all the answers to the above questions are a resounding "NO!"

Although it was without doubt a horrendous situation to be in I don't imagine for one minute it was done on purpose. Its obviously NOT ok to run over a dead person, they were just trying to work out (i imagine) if the deceased was alive prior to the incident. If he was, then the driver could well be looking at a charge of death by dangerous driving.

Please don't look for something in this that just isn't there.

Could we not argue in this thread folks? (yes, that's rich coming from me!).

The article also says the ambulance was under emergency conditions, then it said that the patent who was being transferred was treated at the scene and sent home. I write that for no other reason than to highlight that there are contradictions all over these news reports, they cannot be relied upon. There will be an investigation and the results will no doubt be made public

R.I.P Michael Colley and sincere condolences to his family.

For all the ways a biker might expect to die, getting run over by an ambulance must be low on the list. Tis a sad day...

Tinpants----- I did often drive under blues and twos[Police] a resounding YES----weather? you drive to the conditions. You can rant all you like but in the end all I have said is that the driver is responsible for his actions and my reply is based on the extract as read in the OP.

I also bring you attention to my last line WHICH HAS EMPATHY FOR BOTH PARTIES so get off your high horse.

Re-read my post matey. I asked if you had transported a patient under blue lights. As a copper, the answer is more than likely going to be no.
Yeah, ok, fair one, you are supposed to drive to the road conditions, but as I said, neither you nor I know what the road conditions or layout was at the time in question.
You were the one that made the rather sarcastic assumption that it was ok to run over a dead body, not me. I'm not on my high horse about anything, but the thing is, as a former EMT of 9 years with Gloucestershire, and later Great Western (following a merger) Ambulance Service I get a little annoyed when people make assumptions about medical incidents that they can't back up because they don't have the full facts.

Sorry if my previous post came across as pi55y. It wasn't intended as such, I just saw red for a moment or two.

Now, have one of these

cant really comment on this tragic accident, but the ambulance driver looks partly responsible but as to ambulance/paramedic vehicles causeing accidents and being held responisible and prosecuted by the police i can tell you first hand it very rarely hapens even when it looks like it was 100% there fault, and they mostly get off with out prosecution and it is left up to the other party involved to take it any further
