Collisions like this don't have to be unavoidable you know.

Glad to hear it was only the bike that suffered. was this in Bedford or Cambridge as I travel around both areas and would like to avoid blind drivers. Hope you're claiming for new or laundered underkecks.

Actually, had I not prepared myself for a possible collision I may well have just slammed straight into her door. Goldington Rd Bedford is very wide, especially just by the Fox and Hounds pub (where the collision occurred) I'd moved out to the centre line so I had loads of room to play with, covered the brakes and horn button, backed off ever so slightly and was looking for the escape routes when she suddenly shot out and blocked virtually all my lane. I had virtually no time to react to what she'd done as I was only about 30 feet away, which at even a modest speed like 30mph takes sod all time to cover. I swerved slightly and manouvered around the front but she'd come too far too quickly and blocked part of my escape route which meant I was in danger of colliding with cars facing in the other direction (one of which had stopped and guided her out and then very helpfully buggered off as soon as he realised he'd been the partial cause of an accident). I did well to get away with only smashing her front bumper, it could have been much worse and I dread to think what a less experienced rider or someone travelling at above the speed limit would have ended up doing.

There's a reason I mostly ride at maximum 30mph in 30mph speed limits. It has nothing to do with speed cameras or the law, but more to do with self survival. You are given so little margin for error when driving through built up areas that it's almost suicide to ride faster at times.

Glad that you are OK, any accident is horrible, but at least you walked away from this one. Sending hugs your way sir!

Thats a busy road at the best of times with lots of side roads, had many a car pull out in front of me when I have been in my car. Do not need to go there on bike very often.

Wow how did you keep the bike upright... Did you call the cops. Dozy driver should at the very least have a stern talking to.
