Even if they have asked for it back, I think there is some sort of appeal, if you have some reason why you need a car/bike for work. I know quite a few people are running around with more than 12 points (not me I'm afraid, so I don't know.), but something to look into.

I'd find someone more knowledgeable to give you the full story, but my understanding is that once revoked, you are treated as if you had never had a licence (like teen joyriders, who have points but no licence to put them on).

I feel for you mate, not a nice thing the new driver act, especially because of how easy it is to get 3 points these days

The policeman would have done you a favour if you had got banned rather than received 3 points, a ban gives no points and so you'd keep your license...you would have just needed to wait a bit before going back on the road

I have read up on all of this as I am still not through my first 2 years and have had one friendly encounter already, I would hate to have to do all the tests again

edit: once revoked you are back to a provisional with 6 points on it

from here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...ers/DG_4022566
Quote:
How to get your full driving licence back
If you want to get your full driving licence back you must:
pass the theory and practical driving tests again
exchange your provisional driving licence for a full one, after passing your driving test
In some cases, you may be ordered by the court to take a re-test as part of your penalty for the offence. If you pass this test, you get your licence back. You don’t need to pass two re-tests.
Last bit is interesting...

And this:
Quote:
Appealing against having your driving licence taken away
You can’t appeal directly against having your licence taken away under the New Drivers Act.
You can appeal in court against the conviction that lead to you reach six penalty points. But you can’t appeal against a fixed penalty once you have accepted it.
If you do appeal against a conviction, your licence won’t be taken away before the court has reached a decision.
For advice on whether you can appeal and how to go about it, contact the convicting court.

In which ways is it easier these days?

Mainly, in my experience, as long as you can spot a Yellow Box on a Pole, the actual chances of seeing a Police Office are so slim as to be next to not needing to worry about it.

It's definitely easy to deal with the speed cameras...no question, but I saw a lovely traffic officer on the 19th December on a village B road at the edge of the 30 limit with a lovely laser speed gun...

That's the 3rd radar gun wielding officer I have seen autumn/winter, and the 1st to pull me over

Just my bad luck then I guess....?

???

When I first got my license (a few years ago now) there were MANY more police vehicles on the road - my 2nd set of points came from somone with a gun, the 1st lot had come from a temporary speed camera (which wasn't in a bright yellow box, they were not required to be.

Ok so maybe I DO see more poilce cars than I implied, but they are not traffic cars, they are usually running sirens and lights on their way to something, not patrolling, looking for bad drivers.

As for where - well my commute is like a game of Monopoly...

Although I have been lucky to never get points, it seems it is easier to attract them these days. I have had myself wondering if I've been just that 1mph over....but have been lucky, especially in the car, bike not so bad for some reason, obviously the foot is harder to control than the hand for me!

As for hand held cameras, I know of one person, in a car, who has terrible driving capability, been driving for years, who managed to get 9 points on the same stretch of road from a mobile van. Her powers of observation must be exceptionally poor....dozy bint!

Although i fully accept that the points are all my own fault i feel ive been quite unluky with getting them.

First 3 were on a duel carriageway with a central reservation at night with no other cars, i believed it to be a 70 zone, but having missed the signs i was clocked doing 66 in a 50! Camera was on the backside of a bridge so no bright yellow box :/

Then when i was stopped last night he was in an unmarked car and had been hiding somewhere then pulled out as i came off a roundabout. Was with a mate who decided to make off, i was the good boy who stopped and ended up with another 3 points. Game over.

Also on a separate but interesting note, to those who are on their restriction years, if you are pulled claim you don't have your licence on you and when they do a check to make sure you have one, it comes back as "A2 full entitlement" and no mention of if you should be on 33bhp or not.

Of course i am not implying you should take it out before its legal time, but just an interesting note from first hand experience, that they will not be told over the radio if you should be or not.
