Get a couple of toothpicks after they've dried and scrape as much as possible out the recesses

Ok I really can't see what I did differently this time. Sure enough one of the pistons was quite stuck which it wasn't when I'd dismantled it before so I gave the seal grooves a good scrape out even though I couldn't see anything & I'm happy to say its now working fine!!
