Apart from the sensible technical answer already given can you imagine how interesting this would be to ride on? Personally I don't ride around a bend a constant distance from the kerb, I take a line appropriate to the view, the road conditions and other traffic. I'm not particularly bothered about the level of grip available, only that it is reasonable consistent which under this proposal it wouldn't be.

The last thing we want ( or need ) is being limited to the middle 1/3 of the left hand lane!

You mean the bit where all the grit, dust, discarded nails and other rubbish collects because it isn't driven on by cars...?
