They can lift off. Seen at least two people with plates around the wrist area with really obvious metalwork poking up out of the skin. Both have either had them removed or are on the waiting list.

Pins, screws, nuts, bolts even go ping in the night. Pegs currently in so much pain, he feels like his rods twisting in his leg

He won't go to have it looked at, coz they can't do much about it, other than say 'oooo nice bit of plastic surgery, not much we can do with that'!

Your have to kick him and the medic's up The jack .
Pain killers are addictive only short term and have nasty side effects .
Sounds odd but you can get alternative pain relif .
Yes sounds hocuspokeus and I was sceptical , but it does help .

Its not so clear cut with Peg though NTec, its not as simple as plates and rods. Hes dealt with it for many years, and will continue doing so. Hes supposed to walk with a stick but he refuses, he'll keep dealing with it as best he can. Part of the reason for selling the Z is the pain he feels every day.

I am well aware of the alternatives and side effects of pain killers. I've got enough injuries of my own to know. Fractured my spine years ago, and have gymnastic injuries from a child in my shoulders. Luckily no bits welded in!

Have a plate holding my Radius together. Was told by the surgeon it could be removed at a later date, but he advised that I had it left in, as long as it wasnt causing pain as a 2nd operation to remove it would increase the risk of arthritis later on in life.

Was put in in 2009 and so far it hasnt caused me any trouble.

For info, my chap is called Steven Corbett at Fortius Clinic in London, but if you are considering seeing a specialist or seeking a referral from your GP then I'm happy to ask him if he can recommend anyone in the Birmingham area as I now see him socially - after 4 ops and way too many appointments and a shared love of cricket we ended up as friends.

Oh gosh don't we just . I've had glass jars stuck to my back, tens machines, steroid injections, Reiki, Bowen, alsorts of stuff.
I've practised meditation for many many years!

But then I'm female, I think a lot of blokes seem to either be embarrassed or shy of going to some mumbo jumbo witch doctor to make their pains go away

Really?? I don't know of any prosthesis that are specifically designed to be temporary
Certainly there are cases where plates and screws are planned to be removed after a given time, for example in children where the bone is still growing, but those plates are still the same that would be used in a permanent fixation

Anyway. Hope the pain subsides a bit!
As others have said, get yourself to the docs and get referred back to the orthopaedic department. If it's giving serious jip they will remove some or all of the offending metalwork.
The longer it's in the more difficult it will be to remove as the bone can form around the edges of the plate.
