What a complete load of f***ing bollox that kwik fit statement is.
It's a complete waste of time and effort. I have nitrogen on hand here (for shocks), a temperature gun and a pressure gauge. If anyone wants to come round and debunk this properly then feel free. Nitrogen is dry, yes. What about the tyre? What about the water based soap used to put them on? Have your tyres filled with Nitrogen and increase tyre life by up to 25% maybe compared to having them flat!, improve road holding and handling er no and increase fuel economy by up to 5%! lol. Filling your tyres with nitrogen may seem odd but that's exactly what motor sport and aviation professionals have been doing for years. like on a 747 that has to deal with -50C at altitude then a massive burnout, different story Having a tyre that does not deflate means you will improve fuel consumption and will probably improve safety standards too. It's not yet standard practice but Nitrogen could well be here to stay as a result. hows about checking your tyre pressures you kn*bheads.

GTR has nitrogen. Its less affected by temp and supposedly leeks less?
"Under inflated tyres create drag which increases tread wear, fuel costs and the risk of punctures as well as having a significant effect on a cars performance both in handling and cost. Using nitrogen improves pressure retention and ensures that the tyres remain fully inflated for longer."

Ah But recall it was more to do with the water vapor we get in the airline on normal workshop supply's.

I would suggest he is not well acquainted with gas physics then.
The problem with a lot of bullsh*t, is that with enough marketing, people believe it, even some people in positions of 'authority' which leads others to believe it. And then some other people go and quote it on forums with just hearsay and no scientific reason ![]() Yep, the water in the airline would have limited effect on the pressure change as the tyre comes up to temperature. Which makes no difference even on the track as you'd play with the resultant hot behaviour anyway. It wouldn't make a monkey**** of difference to the pressure retention of the tyre though.

I doubt it pal, there must have been more change than that, out of calibration filling gauge or something.

as said, Its utter bollox.
using Nitrogen in race tyres eliminates water vapour. That's all. And it's only useful if tyre warmers are not used. However, if the same amount of water vapour was used each time it would make no difference whatsoever. Using it for the road is utterly pointless. I challenged a tyre shop for the data to back up their claims on Nitrogen fills and despite a dozen (very, very persistent) Emails, I got nothing back. Its not only hokum, its at best false information. Trades descrition act anyone? C |
