I had a '08 Cg125, loved it, loved the simplicity, lightness and care free feel of owning it. 100-120mpg real world figures. Fine in 30/40mph areas, 50mph is ok but acceleration is dead slow above 55mph, you won't wanna try overtaking something doing 50mph without alot of clear road to do so, i'd say 65mph top speed, but it will creep higher. If thats suitable for your commute then go for one.

+1. I used an '05 YBR 125 for a year before I got the SV. Fantastic commuter, very nippy, I was having great fun after I'd passed my test, going from a 500 back down to a 125 really helped me make the most of that little bike. Any routes not involving motorway it handled fine. The acceleration was pretty good at 40mph or less but it struggled if going any quicker, as for overtaking, not worth even attempting it if car doing 40 or more!

It just got scary on m/way though, as folk have said, the draught from being overtaken by lorries felt like it would have you on your side

[QUOTE=If it's only at rush hour, is any of the traffic going 70 mph+ at that time? If everyone's crawling along at 40 then you don't have the same problems. Or, like has been suggested, try a different route if there is one.[/QUOTE]

It's very slow traffic from my house to the M3, very slow traffic from junction 3 to the M25 junction and then fast clear motorway until i leave the M3 at Sunbury. From there past Hampton Court until work the traffic is barely moving.
I'll check google maps for another route.
I think when i get back from Vegas (woo hoo) i'll get myself on a 125 and give it a go. If it feels in any way unsafe or i get the hump i'll get another SV, cry at the insurance costs and tell the missus to get her own bloody bike

Sods law will mean when you commute to work on the 125 the traffic will be fast flowing. Typical eh?

A fast dual carriageway/motorway on a 125 will be one of the scariest experiences of your life. Find another route or get something bigger.

I have to agree with DJ on this, when he was learning we both had 125's one day we went only one junction down the dual carriageway, everything was overtaking us, we were like really unhappy, we came home and the next day went and brought bigger bikes. Buy a 125 for leaning and something like a 250 for economy, two bikes are not so economic, but you will need a second bike whilst she is riding the 125 anyway.

The NSR would have been quite a laugh to derestrict tbh, but the VanVan was never going to be any better. Although, didn't someone on here stick a 400 engine from a DRZ or something into a VanVan? That could have made it fun!

I have a 25 mile commute. I bought a brand new CBF125, then realised it is was just too slow, sold it, then bought my SV. But now I'm selling that and going back to a 125, as my wages are being cut, and this move will slash my fuel bill by half. I'm probably getting a Lexmoto XTR125 new £1300 OTR. It's a chinese bike, and they do get slagged off (mostly by people who've never owned one). It'll do around 90-100 mpg. If, when the warranty expires it does fall apart, then I'll just bin it, it will have paid for itself by then anyway.
