I must be a glass half empty girl because my worry is that if I met some of the people I have admired, I would be disappointed if they turned out to be vacuous, self involved or stupid. I recently turned down an interview with a rock star for the radio station, because I was disappointed with his ethical stance and was not sure I could stand listening to him if he mentioned it.
Saying that though, a chat over dinner with Philip Pullman and George Orwell would make my life complete provided they both turned out to be as interesting as I have read that they are. A long time ago, a girl I vaguely knew at Uni told me that she would do literally anything (yes, even that! Dirty ho that she was!) to meet an musician friend of mine. I sent her away with a flea in her ear, knowing that my friends wife would be livid! Fame brings a strange thing out in those people who place it upon others.
