Perhaps a little naive of me but I didn't expect it to be so expensive...!

I absolutely hate camping but it may now be an option I have to seriously consider.

We have been going to the TT for the past 15 years and booked up last year during the TT for 2013, and a lot of the sailings were booked then, we take a van over and put the bikes in then use the van for sleeping in at a campsite, works out cheaper in the long run for 2 bikes in a van and if it rains its a bit more comfatable than being in a tent.
we stay at glen lough campsite which is about 3 mile from Douglas, also you van watch the racing from there if you dont fancy riding that day!! best of all they have a minibus that comes to the campsite that takes you into town for £2 and you can get back in the early hours.
hope this helps

Three mates and i are going, ferry booked and campsite booked during race week this year. Even then we had to be flexible about ferry times and ports. Absolutely cannot wait. A personal goal and "light at the end of the tunnel".

I've booked for 5 of us to go this year, me, the wife, my 2 x sons and my old man who will be 87 next year. He used to take me and my brothers when I was young and I've always wanted to take him back. I booked for 2011 but my step-mum died in November 2010 so Dad didn't feel up to going. I'm hoping his health holds up so we can go over there, as 3 generations....it'll be great!

I still haven't sorted our accommodation yet.....

The ferry last year would have come to £450 for me, Gav and 2 bikes for the week.

Not sure about accommodation but IIRC it is about £1300 for a week. Works out about £30 a night each if 6 staying there). Has a huge garden for BBQs that looks out over the bay

Stuuk1 - Have a look at Homestays. I used to stay in one and they are great About £35pppn

Also you may get your bike on the ferry if you wait until mid February as that is when the full amount has to be paid.

Alot of people pay the deposit and then work out later if they can afford it as you don't get told the full price until November.
So come February some people either sell their reservation or cancel.

If you want to see all the familiar faces of the TT racing around on public roads at a fraction of the cost get yourself to Northern Ireland for the NW200. I know it's not the TT, but let's face it, it's too late to be booking for the TT 2013 unless you are very rich or get very lucky.

Riding the coast roads is awesome, the people are friendly, the Guinness is miles better than in England, Belfast is a great night out ( it's not that far from the races at all) and if you like whiskey the bushmills distillery is only up the road.
